I must admit that I didnÔøΩt hold much hope for the data on the hard drive. I had just verified with the user that it was OK to format the drive and erase all the data to install a new operating system. Immediately after clicking on the ÔøΩcontinueÔøΩ button, the user yelled that she was missing a bunch of pictures.I clicked on the ÔøΩcancelÔøΩ button, and stopped the format process.My research indicated that ÔøΩSecure Data Recovery ServicesÔøΩ was a reputable data recovery firm.I dropped off the HD at the local depot and started to worry.A day later one of their support people emailed me with some questions, made no promises, and said he would get back to me.A few days later he emailed me a few more questions, and indicated that they could retrieve some files but not the file names. I authorized the ÔøΩrawÔøΩ recovery process. The user would have to look at the files and then rename them from a ÔøΩnumber.extÔøΩ format to ÔøΩname.extÔøΩ. Apparently the ÔøΩrawÔøΩ recovery process included the correct extension name.Several days later I got an email indicating that the recovery had been completed and they would ship me the recovered data. Several days after that I received a package via courier. I took a solid state hard drive (already equipped with a USB cable) out of the box and plugged it into a computer.As near as I could make out they managed to recover everything.
